This is a sequel to "The Boy From the Woods" and though it has its own separate story, there is enough carry over from the first book that you really shouldn't read this one on its own or first. There is a serious amount of character development on Wilde's part, and I wonder now if there will be a third book in this series. It's a possibility, but I can also see it being just two books with the way this ended. There are some twists and turns and for a minute here and there I had a hard time following all the family tree issues, but overall I didn't want to put this down, and I think I actually enjoyed it a little more than "The Boy From the Woods" because I felt like the ending was a little less tidy.Steven Webber's performance for the audiobook was outstanding once again, and he is easily my favorite narrator from what I've listened to so far. He's the main reason that I listened to these books in the first place, but I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and mystery as well. The ending of this one was more satisfying than I expected, and if this is it for Wilde, I'm glad I was able to come along for the ride. Especially without violating the fair rules of play with clues and red herrings.Coben delivers again, exceptionally well, in this novel.I'd read them both, in order.Ann's then I'd probably need to raff this one again to see what I missed, or if I was too intrigued with the story to stop and think, it too busy with my own life that I didn't have enough time to stop and think, but the twists seemed plausible, and maybe I need to learn more about DNA, but there new DNA tests that folks are signing up for in recent years - and even COVID and reality shows and influencers and all the negative garbage from too much "social media" as we lump it together, the downside to all the upside, makes this a novel of our time and our place. With a great novelty about it that makes it just fun, and it's not bad as a NJ tourist guidebook, either.Maybe someone should start a service like in Hollywood, where the tour bus goes by homes once intended by this or that star, but now owned by so- and-so star, but this one with famous mafia from NJ (better skip the living) and include some famous pizza places and Italian restaurants and bakeries, where the fans can get out and nosh.
